Reflections of a pastor who happens to be gay

FAVOURITE PLACES

Over the past thirty years I have been fortunate to travel and speak throughout Europe and North America, as well provide support and resources to a variety of congregations and organizations. I'm also an advocate for personal retreat, and have enjoyed the hospitality of religious and monastic communities on both continents. Compared to the missionary stories I was raised on, my adventures are light and low risk.  Here are some of my favourite places and experiences.

Agape Centro Ecumenico, Prali Ghigo, Italy  http://www.agapecentroecumenico.org/sito/

Jungfrau, Switzerland. In1992, I took a cable car/ hike inside this mountain to a platform on the outer summit.

Cruising the Hubbard Glacier (above) and a rail trip into the Canadian Yukon (2009)

I have led a number of church cruises, two of which were to Panama. I love this country, partly because of its historic connection with British pirates. On our 2nd trip (2006) we embarked on an adventure on the Chartres River in a dugout canoe.

John MacArthur Park, Palm Beach (below), is a natural coastal preserve just five miles from my home in Florida (2004-09).

San Miniato al Monte, Piazzale Michelangelo, Firenze, Italy

WHITBY is a small fishing community on the North Yorkshire coast, hemmed in by the North Sea and the bleak Yorkshire moors. My sister owns a vacation home here. However beyond the seasonal ebb and flow of British seaside towns, Whitby celebrates a more sinister reputation. It is on West Cliff that Bram Stoker found the inspiration to write Dracula. A seat on the cliff walk honours the place of conception for this classic novel. The town also hosts a biannual Goth festival in April and October.
